brain hemorrhage & stroke taking connection with bathing

Is there a right way to take a bath? Can bathing in the wrong way lead to serious conditions like brain stroke, heart attack or paralysis? Can someone’s life be killed by falling shower water directly on the head? Every day, all such questions that scare us start troubling our mind. In such a situation, it becomes very important to know how reasonable these questions are. We got to know from the senior neurologist of Delhi about all these questions about the way of bathing.

Dr. Vineet Suri, Senior Neurologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital According to this, it is true that many times cases of brain stroke or heart attack are seen while taking a bath. But, it is absolutely wrong to say that taking a wrong bath can lead to a serious condition like brain stroke or heart attack. So far no such theory has come up in medical science. As far as such severe attack while taking a bath or in the bathroom is concerned, it is not because of improper bathing, but cold stroke due to exposure to cold.

Dr. Vineet Suri told that our body has a thermoregulation system, which works to balance the internal temperature of the body. In the winter season, due to cold, some changes occur in the body, due to which the thermoregulation system becomes weak. Due to weak thermoregulation, the body has to face the condition of vasoconstriction. Due to which, the blood vessels in the skin start shrinking. Due to thermoregulation and vasoconstriction, blood pressure increases and sometimes serious conditions like stroke arise.

While taking bath, first pour water on the head or on the feet?
Dr. Ajay Chaudhary, Professor, Department of Neurosurgery at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital According to, the right or wrong way of bathing has not been discussed in medical science yet. So far, no such case or case study has been found, in which brain stroke or brain hemorrhage has happened due to water in the head. He said that due to the weak thermoregulation and vasoconstriction of the body in cold, blood pressure increases and this blood pressure sometimes becomes the reason for brain hemorrhage. This brain hemorrhage has nothing to do with the way you take a bath.

He told that in winter, people leave the quilt and go straight to the bathroom and fall there due to cold stroke. Actually, due to thermoregulation and vasoconstriction, blood pressure increases most rapidly in the morning. Many people are careless about their blood pressure and do not take the dose of medicine on time, which results in brain stroke or brain hemorrhage. Blood pressure and diabetes patients should be very cautious in winter.

Which people are more prone to brain stroke
Dr. Vineet Suri, Senior Neurologist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital According to this, the highest risk of brain hemorrhage due to cold stroke is in the elderly along with blood pressure and diabetic patients. He told that the thermoregulation system of the young man is good. This system adjusts the temperature inside the body according to the temperature outside very rapidly. At the same time, due to weak thermoregulation, the elderly are more vulnerable to cold stroke, which results in brain hemorrhage.

Dr. Ajay Chaudhary, Professor, Department of Neurosurgery at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital According to this, the elderly as well as patients of blood pressure and diabetes should be especially cautious in the cold. They should check their BP and sugar regularly. Many times it happens that BP and sugar patients keep taking their medicines according to the old dosage, suddenly one day the blood pressure shoots up and brain hemorrhage occurs. Therefore, patients of BP and sugar should check their BP and sugar especially in the morning.
